Awarded "Best of Philly 2012" for Literary Activity

A poetry slam is a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience.

In 2010, Jacob Winterstein and Alyesha Wise ("Ms. Wise"), created this poetry slam to improve the writing and performance of the poets in Philadelphia.

In 2014 Alyesha Wise moved to Los Angeles. With funding from the Knight foundation Alyesha was able to fly out for to co-host the 2014/15 season. In the summer of 2015 we began the process to transition Alyesha out of the Philly Pigeon Collective by bringing on two new members, Jasmine Combs and Kai Davis.

Jasmine and Kai are Philadelphia natives, Temple University alumni and Babel Poetry Collective alumni. Jasmine is the 2015 Philly Pigeon Grand Slam champion and has represented the Philly Pigeon twice at the National Poetry Slam. Kai is an experience event host, nationally renowned performance poet and winner of two national team poetry slams: Brave New Voices and College Union Poetry Slam Invitational. She is the former artistic director of the Babel Poetry Collective.

The first Friday of the month from October-May at PhilaMOCA at 12th and Spring Garden Streets we will bring you an amazing out-of-town featured poet, a live DJ and a three round elimination slam.

What is The Pigeon? The Pigeon is an audacious bird that is everywhere.
