The Philly Pigeon is facilitated by Black Minds Publishing, which is a proud African American own company, supporting neighborhoods and events such as this all over the Philadelphia area. This company encourages black artists to speak up and show their talents to the world. It is a safe space for open expression and welcome thought provoking poetic art through its poets. Learn how to express yourself in a beautiful and powerful way with The Philly Pigeon. Come be a powerful voice for opinions that matter to you.
All ages are welcome and admission fees are ten dollars for students with I.D. and fifteen dollars for general admission. Tickets are sold on our website or at the door, but they do sell out fast, so if you are going to walk in please be aware tickets may not still be available. Our workshop class is four weeks long and meets once a week. We focus on the body as a home the first week and then the body as an escape before studying the body as a celebration and finally the body as freedom/rebellion.
Our poetry workshop starts at seven-thirty and goes until sign ups for the poetry slam begins at eight-thirty. You can hone in on your poetry skills and get prepared for the competition. During the poetry slam you have two chances to continue onto the next round or lose to your opponent. Will you be this month’s poetry slam victor?
